Diamondville Town Council discusses liquor ordinances, board appointments

Posted

The Town of Diamondville held a Town Council meeting on Monday, June 5, in the Diamondville Town Hall.

The Council passed Ordinance 461, concerning the use of intoxicating beverages, on its third and final reading. The ordinance will be a new chapter in Diamondville town law, instead of the liquor statutes that the Wyoming State Legislature recently passed.

The Town Council agreed to appoint Town Clerk Alyssa Hartmann to the Uinta-Lincoln Revolving Loan Fund Board.

Hartmann is also a member of the South Lincoln Economic Development Board.

“The [Loan Fund] board helps with funding buildings and business expansion,” Hartmann said. “They have 12 loans out there totaling $750,000. They haven’t had a board member from Kemmerer or Diamondville in several years, and I think it would be beneficial in making more people aware of these funds that are available.”

The appointment is a three-year term, and the board meets once a year.

Town meeting attendees noted that Diamondville businesses such as E&L Motors and Arctic Circle have used funding from the Loan Fund Board in the past.

The Council passed on first reading Ordinances 463 and 464 concerning junk cars and abandoned property.

Cars will be considered in violation of the ordinance if they are in public view, are unable to move on their own power, and are not licensed with displays of proper state-issued registration stickers.

The Street Department addressed concerns about asphalt road conditions in Upper Diamondville.

Diamondville Police Chief Mike Thompson noted that a fine for being discovered driving without insurance increased from $420 to $550.

The Diamondville Museum Committee discussed interest in placing a granite marker that tells the history of Diamondville in Miner’s Park.

Mayor Backman encouraged the committee to address the council again when they know exactly how much the marker will cost.

The Town Council granted Search and Rescue a malt beverage permit to use at their annual barbecue on June 24 in Diamondville Municipal Park.

The next Diamondville Town Council Meeting will be held June 19, at 6 p.m. at the Diamondville Town Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
