Kathy and Jack Smith of Morro Bay, Calif., made a pitstop in Kemmerer on Friday, August 24, on their cross-country skateboard trip. The couple owns the Morro Bay Skateboard Museum in California. Jack is riding his electric skateboard across America — from Oregon to Virginia — to raise awareness and money for their museum. “I’ve gone cross-country on a regular skateboard at least four times before, and I’m 61, so I figured I earned a trip on an electric skateboard,” Jack said. By the time the Smiths stopped in Kemmerer to visit J.C. Penney and Fossil Butte National Monument, they had been on the road for a week. Kathy drives the couple’s van ahead of Jack as he skateboards. Jack skateboards about 70 miles each day. The couple is currently in Casper.
