Community Health Fair in Kemmerer this Saturday

Posted

The annual Community Health Fair will be held at the Event Center this Saturday, May 13 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The event is organized by the South Lincoln Medical Center.

The Kemmerer Gazette talked to South Lincoln Medical Center administrative assistant Tori Nielson about all the details of the health fair.

Q&A with Tori Nielson

Gazette: What happens at this event?

Tori Nielson: This fair is all about anything health, wellness, or safety related. The EMS comes so people can step inside an ambulance, the life-flight helicopters come and we have a fire truck.”

G: What has been the community response to this event in the past?

TN: People love the health fair. Last year we had 940 blood draws done before the fair, this year we’re up to 1005. If someone came into our facilities for all these tests it would cost about $1000, but at the fair it only costs $50, and $25 for seniors.

G: What about the vendors?

TN: We have 30 booths with vendors whose job is to make people aware of their services. We have vendors from Wyoming, Salt Lake and Idaho. Water for Life comes to educate about the importance of hydration. Lincoln County Public Health comes to educate people about their services. The Wyoming Cancer Center is bringing a giant colon that people can walk through to see what a healthy and unhealthy colon looks like, and warning signs to look out for in an unhealthy colon.”

G: Why should members of the community come to this event?

TN: The overall experience is family-oriented. Kids love the helicopter and the fire truck, and it’s a great opportunity to learn about services people may not even know they have access to.

G: What are some of the fair’s drawings and prizes?

TN: We offer tons of door prizes. When you walk in the fair you get a card, and if you visit something like 5 or more booths, your card is entered into the drawing. We give prizes away every hour until they’re gone. We’ll be giving out bike safety kits, drawings for free carseats and offering carseat safety checks.
