Cokeville’s Weston Murdock wrestles a Greybull opponent at the Don Runner Invite in Pavilion on Saturday, Jan. 12. Six Cokeville wrestlers placed in the top five.
The Cokeville Panther wrestlers traveled to Pavilion, Wyo., last weekend for the 41st Annual Don Runner Invite. This is where the Panthers see most of the teams in their region and also several teams from the 2A State Division.
Cokeville had six wrestlers place in the top five at the Don Runner Invite. Devan Moody (160) lost a couple of close matches but finished strong with a fifth-place finish. Wes Teichert (152) finished the weekend in third place.
Cokeville had four wrestlers make it to the finals: Lochlyn Teichert (145), Ammon Teichert (152), Brayden Johnson (170) and Bentley Johnson (182).
Lochlyn’s opponent was from Shoshoni. This match was close until the very end. Lochlyn finished as runner-up in his weight.
Next up was Ammon, and his opponent was from Riverton. This was also very close but Ammon came away victorious as the champ at his weight.
Then Brayden Johnson faced an opponent from Lovell. Brayden wrestled well and won his weight.
The final Panther to wrestle was Bentley Johnson at 182. After the opening whistle the two wrestlers scrambled around, then Bentley ended up with a cradle locked-up and was able to pin his opponent from Wind River.
The Panther team finished in 4th place, and the coaches were pleased with several things they saw from all the wrestlers.
The Panthers now have another busy week ahead. On Thursday, Jan. 17, they are at home against Rich, and they compete at the Rumble in Utah on Friday and Saturday.
