Cokeville wrestlers earn second place at regionals

The Cokeville Panther wrestling team placed second at the 2A West Regional Wrestling Tournament in Ethete at Wyoming Indian High School on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Panthers team had a roster of 18 wrestlers at regionals, and were able to qualify all 18 for the state tournament in Casper this weekend.

The team scores before the finals had Kemmerer in the lead (172), Cokeville in 2nd (147) and Big Piney third (137). Cokeville had seven wrestlers in the finals, as did Kemmerer.

Cokeville won four of their seven finals matches. The Panthers finished as runner-up with 169 points. Individually, eight of the Panthers placed in the top three. Rick Nate (195) finished in third place. Lochlyn Teichert (132), Wes Teichert (138) and Brayden Johnson (170) all came away as second-place medalists.

Ammon Teichert (145), Cordell Viehweg (152), Antheny Petersen (160) and Bentley Johnson (182) all finished as champions in their respective weight classes.

The Panthers are preparing this week for the State Wrestling Tournament in Casper on Feb. 23 and 24, at the Casper Events Center.

Nathan Thornock (113) faces off against  Saratoga’s Jerry Everett for his first match of the state tournament. Nathan Weske (120) wrestles Moorcroft’s Tate Hullinger first. Wyatt Mackey’s (120) first opponent is Niobrara County’s William Fish. Eli Linford (126) wrestles Wright’s Dax Yeradi for his first state match this season. Weston Murdock (132) faces off against Wright’s Kayden Mack first. Lochlyn Teichert’s (132) first opponent is James Dowd of Dubois. Matt Thompson (138) has his first state match this season against Glenrock’s Brysen Collier. Wes Teichert (138) wrestles Moorcroft’s Christian Nieto first. Ammon Teichert (145) has HEM’s Nick McDaniel as his first opponent at state. Wyatt Awtrey (145) squares up against Tate Kelly of Burns Pine-Bluffs. Cordell Viehweg (152) wrestles Sundance’s Josh Nehl first. Devan Moody (152) wrestles Austin Butler of Hullet first. Antheny Petersen (160) will face Greybull’s Shawn Erhart as his first opponent. Spencer Brown (160) faces Wind River’s Colter Collver. Brayden Johnson (170) wrestles Pacen Gifford of Niobrara County. Bentley Johnson (182) has Wind River’s Colton Befus as his first opponent. Rick Nate (195) has a bye for his first match.
