The Cokeville High School wrestling team opened its season at the annual Brave Brawl in Star Valley on Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9. The tournament hosted eight teams including Cokeville, Jackson, Star Valley A Team, Star Valley B Team, Shelley, Rigby, Logan and Skyview.
Each team competed in four duals on Friday and three on Saturday.
The Panthers wrestled Star Valley’s B Squad first, and won the dual 42–27. The Panthers wrestled Shelley next. They lost this dual 21–57.
The Panthers wrestled Rigby for their third dual and won 48–28. Their final dual on Friday was against Skyview. This dual was tight and the Panthers came up a little short in several matches, losing the dual 21–43.
On Saturday, the Panthers faced Logan, Star Valley A and Jackson. Logan was a battle of pins and forfeits.
When the dual was over, the score was tied 42–42. After going down the list of tie-breaker criteria, the judges found a tie-breaker that unfortunately didn’t go to the Panthers.
The Panthers faced the home team, the Star Valley Brave,s next and lost 63–12.
The final dual for the Panthers was against Jackson which they won easily 69–6. It was a good weekend for the Panthers.
Three Panther wrestlers went undefeated: Brayden Johnson (160), Antheny Petersen (170) and Bentley Johnson (182).
“We wrestled pretty well, but we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Coach Linford said.
The Panthers will travel to Kemmerer on Saturday, Dec. 16 for their next competition.
