Cokeville’s Ammon Teichert pins his opponent from Uinta in the 152-pound Best of the Best match at the Thoman Memorial in Green River on Saturday, Jan. 5.
The Panther wrestling team traveled to Green River on Jan. 4 and 5 for the Thoman Soda Ash Memorial Tournament. The Panthers wrestled seven duals in two days, winning three and losing four. These duals gave all the wrestlers valuable mat time versus some worthy opponents.
Following the duals, the top two wrestlers in each weight were selected to compete in the “Best of the Best” dual. The Panthers had four wrestlers compete in this final dual. Lochlyn Teichert (145) wrestled Donny Proffit from Kemmerer. Proffit won by a fall. Ammon Teichert (152) matched up with a wrestler from Uintah. Ammon won by a fall.
Brayden Johnson (170) matched up with a wrestler from Rawlins. This was a battle for three periods and Brayden won by a fall. The final match for the Panthers had Bentley Johnson (182) against a wrestler from Green River. In the end Green River came away victorious by a fall.
The team wrestled well and showed some great improvement. The Panthers will now prepare for the Don Runner Tournament this weekend in Pavilion on Friday, Jan. 11, and Saturday, Jan. 12.
