The Cokeville Panthers football team opened the season on their home field on Friday, August 31, against the Buffs of Mountain View — the defending 2A state champions.
It’s always a great game when these two teams meet each year, and Friday was no exception. It was a battle to the final seconds, with the Panthers coming out on top, 20–13.
Total yardage was a dead heat, with the Buffs racking up 257 and the Panthers 256. The Buffs turned the ball over six times. Cokeville's Andrew Thomas, Jake Harmon and Ethan Bird each recovered a fumble. Bentley Johnson, Lochlyn Teichert and Devyn Donahue each secured an interception. The Buffs had 114 yards in 24 carries and had 143 yards passing. The Panthers had 204 yards in 43 carries and 52 yards passing.
Jake Harmon averaged 50 yards on two punts, while Hayden Hatch averaged 30 yards on three punts. It was a great day for the Panthers.
This week Cokeville is preparing for the Cyclones of Southeast. This game will be played in Rawlins on Friday, Sept. 7, with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m.
