Cokeville City Councilman Colby Peck was appointed mayor of Cokeville at the town council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Mayor Peck will finish the current term following the recent passing of Mayor Stan Thompson. This appointment opens a seat on the town council that will be filled at a later date.

The Cokeville Branch Library held a diamond art activity on Monday, Sept. 11, for anyone interested in learning how to do this fun type of art. Those participating received a diamond art project and spent an hour getting started that evening. The group plans to meet up in January to see the finished products. Thanks to Angela Thompson and the staff at the library for providing another fun opportunity at our local library.

The Cokeville Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) met for their first meeting of the 2023-24 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the Cokeville Elementary Media Center. The Halloween Carnival was discussed along with committees needed for the coming year. The PTO is continuing to raise money for playground equipment and is currently holding a fundraiser bringing 50-pound bags of potatoes and onions in from Grace, Idaho. Information can be found on flyers as well as Facebook.

Children’s author Mac Barnett visited Cokeville Elementary on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Barnett has been writing for 20 years and visiting schools across the nation for the past 15. His favorite book he’s written is “The Wolf, the Duck and a Mouse.” He knew from the time he was in second grade that he wanted to be an author. In seventh grade, Barnett had a teacher tell him he was a great writer and thought he would make a great author. The book “Stinky Cheese Man” was his inspiration. He loves visiting schools and sharing his talent.

Ethan Bird, son of Cameron and Amanda Bird, spoke in the Cokeville First and Second wards on Sunday, Sept. 17, following his two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, Vancouver Mission. Family and friends were there to welcome him home.

Cael Thompson, son of Mike and Angela Thompson, graduated from Fort Moore in Georgia on Aug. 24. He went on to Fort Gordon in Georgia on Aug. 26, for advanced individual training. Cael is studying signaling. He will finish January 2024.

Cokeville High School hosted the University of Wyoming Art Museum’s “Off the Beaten Path: Contemplating the Land” mobile art exhibit on Sept. 12-13 in themedia center. The educational goal of the Ann Simpson Artmobile is to provide a playful learning experience for all ages and abilities, to empower life-long learning of and through art and to create space for unlikely connection. This was a great opportunity for Cokeville High School to host this event.
