The annual Cokeville High School tournament of champions was held on Friday, August 24, and Saturday, August 25.
There were 12 teams competing, including Cokeville, Grace, Green River, Alta, Campbell County, Bear Lake, Star Valley, Lyman, Rich County, Evanston, Mountain View and Preston.
The Cokeville Lady Panthers were in the tournament pool with Grace, Green River and Alta.
On Friday, the Lady Panthers began the tournament with a game against Grace, winning in three sets.
Their next opponents were the Lady Wolves of Green River. Again, the Lady Panthers won in three sets. Cokeville’s final match on Friday night was against the Lady Hawks of Alta. The Lady Panthers played hard but were defeated in four sets.
Cokeville’s Friday performance earned the team a spot in Saturday’s gold bracket.
The Lady Panthers’ first game on Saturday was against the Lady Red Devils of Evanston. The Lady Panthers defeated Evanston in four sets. This placed them in the semi-finals match with the Lady Buffs of Mountain View.
The Lady Panthers gave it their all, but came up short against Mountain View, sending Cokeville into the third/fourth place match against Alta.
This time the Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Hawks handily in the first match, but the Lady Hawks took the win at the end of four sets.
The Cokeville tournament’s championship match was between Lyman and Mountain View.
These teams were evenly matched, and it was a fight to the end. After five sets, the Lyman Lady Eagles came out on top.
