Cokeville football beats Wright 61–8

The Cokeville Panthers hosted the Wright Panthers in the first round of playoffs on Friday, Oct. 26. From the first play of the game, Cokeville took control and steamrolled over the Wright Panthers 61–8. Quarterback Bentley Johnson took the ball 75 yards for the first play of the game and the first touchdown. With a good PAT the score was 7–0.

Following an interception by Bentley Johnson, Ammon Teichert scored on a short run. The PAT was no good and the score was 13–0. The Panthers got the ball back following a punt by Wright, and Johnson scored on another short yard run. The Panthers went for two and raised the score 21–0. Wright had to punt it away again and following a series of plays, Bentley crossed the goal line again and with a good PAT the score was 28–0.

Wright fumbled following the kick-off and Johnson recovered on the 25 yard line. Hayden Hatch scored the next touchdown for the Panthers with a reception in the end zone. With a good PAT the score was now 35–0.

After a Wright interception, Lochlyn Teichert got the ball right back for the Panthers with an inteception of his own.

Ammon Teichert took the ball across the line for another score and with a good PAT the home team was up 42–0. Wright had to punt again but this time it was blocked and recovered by the Cokeville Panthers on the five-yard line. Johnson sneaked in for a touchdown and the Panthers went up 48-0. The PAT was no good. The score remained 48–0 at the half.

The home team kicked off to the visiting team. Wright soon fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Devan Moody. Devin Donahue then had the opportunity to carry the ball and scored for the Panthers on a 35 yard run. The PAT was good bringing the score to 55-0. This was the score at the end of the third quarter.

The Panthers scored again in the fourth on a 50-yard quarterback keeper as Nate Barnes carried the ball down the field for six more. The PAT was good and the Panthers were up 61–0. With three minutes left in the game, Wright was finally able to carry the ball across the goal line for their only score of the game.

They went for two and were successful, and that’s how the game ended 61–8. The Panthers will host the Upton-Sundance Bobcats on Friday, Nov. 2, at 1:00 p.m. in Cokeville. There will be a charge for this quarter-final playoff game.
