Diamondville Police Chief Mike Thompson will teach a free emergency safety class on Friday, Dec. 29, at 5:00 p.m. at Diamondville Town Hall.
Chief Thompson is calling the class "Citizens Live."
"It's a Department of Defense program that I adapted for citizens," Chief Thompson said.
Attendees at the free class will learn emergency first-aid techniques that can be used in a variety of situations.
"Whether you're hunting, hiking, or in a car accident, you will learn these emergency safety techniques that can be used in remote areas," Chief Thompson said.
Thompson will teach class participants how to use a tourniquet and apply direct pressure to a severely bleeding wound, as well as other emergency first-aid techniques that he says are especially relevant.
"The class is designed to give citizens the knowledge to save their own lives and the lives of others," Chief Thompson said. "They will learn what to do in an emergency, like the active shooter situations that have been prevalent lately in our nation."
Thompson said the class will be very hands-on.
Thompson said he hopes to teach other classes for the community in the future.
To RSVP to the free class, contact the Diamondville Police Department or the Diamondville Town Hall.
