Terri Cartwright has resigned as executive director of the Kemmerer Senior Center after six years in the position.
Cartwright joined the Senior Center in 2009 as a secretary. She became executive director in 2011.
Cartwright has accepted a position as an admissions clerk at the South Lincoln Medical Center.
As director, Cartwright has been responsible for grant writing, staff supervision, money management, community outreach and program development.
“It's a tricky business,” Cartwright said. “This place is run by federal and state grants, and there's a lot of work that goes into what we do.”
Cartwright reflected on what has been the most rewarding for her during her time at the Senior Center.
“I love working with the community to bless people's lives,” Cartwright said.
Cartwright said she has learned why the senior center is important to the community.
“We help people find programs that are there to assist them,” Cartwright said. “We watch people form friendships, and as they start coming to the center more, it lifts their spirits.”
“I think what I'm going to miss most is the friendships I made with the seniors,” Cartwright said. “I've learned a lot about their lives, their families and the history of Kemmerer.”
Cartwright had some advice for the person who replaces her as executive director of the center.
“Enjoy these people and the wisdom they impart,” Cartwright said. “Get to know them and work hard for them.”
