5 Rangers prequalify for state

The Kemmerer High track squad traveled to Star Valley and Green River last week and performed well. In Star Valley, the boys’ team scored 54 points to place fourth out of ten teams behind Star Valley in first, Soda Springs in second and Mountain View in fourth.  

Star Valley

Colton Rydstrom had his best throw in the shot put to date at 44 feet 6.25 inches for 4th place. The mark prequalified him for the event at the state meet. 

Other personal bests in the throwing events included Jeydon Boyd in the shot put at 36-7.25 and discus at 91-9, Cyrus Skidmore in the shot put at 31-7.5 and discus at 80-0, Thomas Archibald in the shot put at 27-11.25 and discus at 71-10.5, Callie Bosch in the shot put at 25-9.25 and discus at 54-2 and Charity Chamberlain in the shot put at 22-0.5.

In an exciting 1600-meter dash, Louis Failoni held off Lain Mitchelson of Farson at the tape for first place and Lukas Mathews finished thirrd. The boys 4x800 meter relay team of John Caugherty, Mathews, Nick Vineyard and Failoni prequalified for the state meet with their fourth place time of 8:56.46.

The high jumpers had a good day with Connor Bateman clearing 5 feet 10 inches for second place, Tanner Plowman clearing 5-4 for fourth place and Cameron Adams clearing 5-0 for sixth place. Bateman also placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with Gavin Julander in tenth place. Plowman placed sixth in the triple jump.

For the girls, Sammi Butler was the lone scorer, placing seventh in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:22.52. Teryn Thatcher was just out of the scoring in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and triple jump. Brooklyn Hagler just missed scoring in both hurdle events.

Green River

Sammi Butler placed second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:44.97. She also placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with Teryn Thatcher in ninth place. Thatcher placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet 0.75 inches.

Brooklyn Hagler placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.23 seconds and 11th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.57 seconds. Katie Zuniga had a good 100-meter dash of 14.51 seconds but did not place.

For the boys, Louis Failoni missed prequalification in the 800-meter dash by a mere three-tenths of a second by running the oval twice in 2:05.32 for third place in a strong field. Lukas Mathews placed eighth in the same event. In the 400-meter dash, Failoni placed fourth with a time of 55.36 seconds.

Colton Rydstrom placed second in the shotput with a toss of 42 feet 7 inches. Jeydon Boyd placed 12th. Nick Vineyard placed ninth in the pole vault by clearing 9 feet even.

In the high jump, Tanner Plowman cleared 5 feet 5 inches for third place. Connor Bateman cleared the same height for fifth place. Plowman triple jumped a distance of 39 feet 2.75 inches for seventh place and long jumped 18 feet 5 inches to land in ninth place.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Plowman, Gavin Julander, Bateman and Brennan Starr placed sixth with a time of 3:56.93. Cameron Adams ran a quick 100-meter dash of 12.68 seconds and a 200-meter dash of 26.79 seconds. John Caugherty ran 27.16 seconds in the 200-meter dash, a personal best.

The squad is scheduled to host a meet this Saturday.
